Cancellation Notice!

The field trip to Goldfield and onto Gemfield scheduled for this Saturday is cancelled. A lot of the procedures for taking specimens from Gemfield have changed over the years and currently, weigh and pay as this is leased property.

The individual that was going to lead an additional side trip around Goldfield had to cancel their assistance due to scheduling conflicts.

At this point, I’d suggest you contact Bruce Wingate astrorock2010@yahoo.com to ‘suggest’ other locations that you may be aware of. As summer temperatures approach, we have to keep in mind it’s not as comfortable to be out in the sunshine and it presents a problem for many of our members.

Higher elevation trip to the north (cooler temperatures) are possible but due to distance require an overnight stay in a Motel or RV Campgrounds. If these kinds of trips could be on your agenda, please express that to Bruce.

Otherwise, we will reconvene on our regularly scheduled meeting date of September 13th @ 18:00 (6 P.M.), Ruud Center corner of Basin and Hwy-160.

Be safe, travel if you can and have fun this summer!

4 of us arrived at the 40 acre Gold Claim at 09:30 and proceeded to locate and mark the 4 corners via GPS. After a lot of hiking, we zeroed in to the 5th GPS decimal and stuck our white posts. These markers cannot be seen from our parking area. Members should use the map for boundary guidance; an update will be provided soon. The very high wind gusts today made walking on rocky terrain difficult. One person fell with a face cut and me with 3 cactus thorns through the boot sole; ouch!  After one of the quads broke down, it had to be towed off the mountain. Lots of 4 legged friends watching us today.
