Hello Rock Hounds,

If you were wondering if the field trip is still on for tomorrow, Saturday, May 7th, the answer is…YES.

Field Trip destination: “Eagle Mountain” is the location. Desert Rose, Crystals and other specimens are on the list to look for. 2-wheel drive vehicle should be ok on this trip.

Meeting Location: The group will be meeting at the crossroads at Death Valley Junction (the Opera House). Take Bella Vista road (state line road) west to CA-127

Meeting Time: 09:00 (parking lot on the left as approaching the stop sign). Leave early so you’re not rushed!

Remember: Belle Vista Road is patrolled so watch your speed. Let’s all be safe on our field trips! Don’t forget lots of water and snacks…

Planning: Driving time to Death Valley Junction, approximately 30 mins; 26 miles from Hwy-160 and Belle Vista Road intersection. If you have handheld radios, bring them and stay in touch with instructions, etc. Get them charged up and put in your vehicle now so you won’t forget them later. CB-monitor channel 4.

If you are going on this trip, PLEASE email or call Bruce Wingate so he will have an idea who to expect. If you signed up and can’t come, please give Bruce a call and let him know so the group is not waiting for you if running a little late; group only waits 15 minutes! Again, the old saying is “if you can’t be on time, be early”.

Volunteers Needed!

Rock-N-Gold is participating in a 30-year anniversary celebration of our local Museum!

Date: Saturday, April 23rd. We need volunteers to staff and help set up tables to demonstrate gold panning. Please volunteer to help Monte set up @ 08:00 at the Museum.

Additional volunteers: are needed starting at 10:00 in 2 hour shifts until 16:00 (4:00 P.M). This is a ONE-day event only.

OLD NEWS...

May 15, 2021

4 of us arrived at the 40 acre Gold Claim at 09:30 and proceeded to locate and mark the 4 corners via GPS. After a lot of hiking, we zeroed in to the 5th GPS decimal and stuck our white posts. These markers cannot be seen from our parking area. Members should use the map for boundary guidance; an update will be provided soon. The very high wind gusts today made walking on rocky terrain difficult. One person fell with a face cut and me with 3 cactus thorns through the boot sole; ouch!  After one of the quads broke down, it had to be towed off the mountain. Lots of 4 legged friends watching us today.
